Cakes, Cheesecakes, and Handcrafted Desserts. Inside the Patisserie at Lithosphere, Bodakdev.
Ahmedabad city has no shortage of bakeries and cake shops, but a kitchen that approaches desserts with genuine technical training and produces everything from scratch occupies a different category altogether. Lithosphere in Bodakdev is one of those places, and the patisserie here reflects both a classical culinary education and over three decades of understanding what Ahmedabad’s palate responds to.
The patisserie sits at the entrance of the Lithosphere complex on Rajpath Rangoli Road, behind Rajpath Club, and is open daily. It supplies the fine dining restaurant and Core – the coffee shop, within the complex, and is also available as a standalone stop for walk-in purchases.
The People Behind the Patisserie
The patisserie at Lithosphere is managed by Lester Dsouza and his daughter Natasha Dsouza. Lester founded Upper Crust in 1989 as a bakery and confectionery, establishing a foundation in baked goods that has defined the family’s approach to food for over 35 years. Upper Crust was among the first establishments to introduce the Black Forest cake to Ahmedabad, at a time when it was unfamiliar to most of the city.
Natasha trained as a patisserie chef at Le Cordon Bleu in London, one of the most respected culinary institutions in the world for classical French pastry. On returning to Ahmedabad, she brought that training directly into the Lithosphere kitchen. The combination of Lester’s long experience running a bakery in Ahmedabad and Natasha’s formal grounding in French patisserie gives the kitchen an approach that is both technically considered and practically suited to the city it operates in.

What the Patisserie Offers
Cheesecakes
The cheesecake section is among the most consistently praised parts of the Lithosphere menu. The offerings distinguish between different preparations, each with a different texture and character. The Baked New York Style cheesecake is the classic reference point, with a dense, smooth texture and a clean finish. The Burnt Basque is caramelised on the surface and soft at the centre, a style that originates from the Basque region of Spain and requires precise temperature management to execute well. The Double Fromage combines two styles of cheesecakes in two distinct textures within a single cake.
Year-round flavours include Chocolate and Biscoff, with seasonal options such as Mango, Raspberry and Pistachio Kunafa. All fruit compotes are made in-house, which contributes to a freshness of flavour that is immediately distinguishable from versions made with commercial fillings.
Cakes
The Fruit Gateau is a lighter option built around fresh fruit, well-proportioned cream, and a clean sponge. The Roasted Almond sits at the richer end of the spectrum, with depth of flavour that comes through the roasting process. Seasonal flavors such as Pineapple, Litchi and Plummet are also available. For occasions that call for something specific, the kitchen offers bespoke personalised cakes made to order, with a portfolio of previous work available for reference. Bundt and Plum cakes are also available in a wide range of flavours.
Entremets
Entremets are multi-layered French desserts assembled from elements such as sponge cake, mousse, crémeux, and fruit compote. Their intricate construction requires technical precision and attention to detail, making them a reliable indicator of a patisserie’s craftsmanship. At Lithosphere, these elegant desserts are handcrafted in-house and available by the piece, with offerings including the refreshing Blueberry Entremet and the Coffee Orange Entremet, which combines the bold richness of coffee with subtle citrus notes for a balanced and refined flavour profile.
Handcrafted Chocolates
The chocolate section covers three formats. Chocolate barks in dark and milk chocolate with toppings such as Roasted Almond, Cashew Nuts, and Pista and Cranberry. Truffles in Dark Chocolate Almond, Milk Chocolate Dulce De Leche, and White Chocolate raspberry. Chocolate bon bons in a range that includes Hazelnut, Raspberry, Nutella, Irish cream and Blueberry, available by the piece or in boxes. These are a practical option for gifting and event favours.
Others
Beyond the main sections, a few items at the patisserie have built a following of their own. The Tiramisu stays close to the Italian original, with espresso-soaked layers and a well-balanced mascarpone cream. The Tres Leches is a soft, milk-soaked sponge cake with a light finish, a format that tends to appeal to those who find most celebration cakes too dense or rich. And then there is the Chocolate Teddy, which has become something of a signature at Lithosphere. A hollow chocolate figure filled with a surprise inside, it is as much an experience as it is a dessert and is one of the more photographed items to come out of the patisserie kitchen.
What People Say
Across Google and Tripadvisor, the patisserie at Lithosphere is one of the more frequently cited reasons people return. The cheesecakes appear most often in reviews, with several noting them as among the best available in Ahmedabad. The entremets and handcrafted chocolates draw particular mention from visitors who have experienced patisseries in other cities. A consistent thread across reviews is that the desserts feel genuinely crafted rather than assembled from commercial components, which reflects the in-house approach the kitchen takes across the entire range.
